What AND why

Making maximum use of our EA information, to show not just what the world looks like now, but why as well.

When we look into a model, we see the ‘what’ of the model. What exists, and what is connected to what.

This is great – it’s a very rich source of information about the world we are trying to model.

But better still is to understand WHY the model looks the way it does.

We may be lucky, and the person who created the model may have included some of their ‘working out’. They may have included comments or other bits of description, which explain why they created what they created, and did what they did.

Portfolio Manager can deliver an even richer source of knowledge, because we can keep information about past projects in our repository, not just the changes they implemented but other information as well. All connected. This means that, for example, if we are about to make a change to something, we can see which project delivered the last change to it, and, if we keep them in EA, the requirements of that project.

So now we can know, for example, why Application Component A looks the way it does, by seeing the requirements that it realizes, or by looking further into Project X to see what its objectives were.

This makes maximum use of our EA information, to show not just what the world looks like now, but why as well.
